About the CompanyThe Past
The Company "Firma Codogni" sp.j. (general partnership) was established in 1990 based on an existing metal-processing plant. At the start of its activity, the Company aimed at entering into trade relations in Poland and abroad, trading mainly in metal products.
In 1994, after restructuring the Company, its new management made a strategic decision on its further activities and future business profile. Trading has been considerably reduced while the Company focused on the manufacture of steel products. It has been decided to expand own production of steel balls used in milling and crushing processes for Polish mining, power and cement industries.
At the end of 1997, the first production line for forged and rolled balls, purchased in Italy, was put into operation. The production line consisted of a pusher gas furnace to heat the charge, a cold heading machine and a set of rollers ending in a quenching/hardening line. The capacity of this production line amounted to 3500-4000 tons of steel balls per year. This line produced steel balls with diameters between 30 and 80 mm.
In the same year, our Company acquired the status of a protected work company, after meeting the terms of the law on rehabilitation and employment of the disabled.
At the beginning of the 90's we began to co-operate with KGHM Polska Miedz S.A. (Polish copper mining and processing industrial complex) and this resulted in a decision to install further production lines of forged balls. In 1998, a 1000-ton press line based on induction heating started to produce balls of 80 to 100 mm diameter; in 2000, another press line with similar parameters was put into service. The total production capacity of these new lines amounts to approx. 5000 tons of balls per year.
The Present
Our activity on the grinding media market for industry, started in the 90's, resulted in close co-operation with buyers of steel balls from all over Poland. At present, Codogni has 85 employees and sells its products to many customers, of which KGHM Polska Miedz S.A. is a leading customer. The broad assortment of produced balls, with diameters from 30 to 100 mm, meets the expectations and requirements of domestic buyers; optimization of production costs and application of cost-reducing technologies allows us to maintain competitive prices and to improve the quality of our products.
In 2005, we intend to install a consecutive new ball forging line, with a production capacity of 2500 tons per year. This will allow us to reach a total production capacity of finished product at the 11000 ton/year level. This new production line will extend our range of ball diameters up to 120 mm.
In 2001, we sold nearly 6000 tons of forged and rolled steel balls, and in 2004 nearly 8500 tons, which puts our Company in the forefront of production of grinding media in Poland. In order to reduce production costs we are using metallurgic materials produced by Polish steel plants as well as by our own sources utilizing redundant steel products that are made of high quality steel with very homogeneous chemical composition.
